BDA was a member of the multi-disciplinary design team providing the site design and environmental planning for the hospital project. The site design approach follows sustainable development principles, this includes stormwater management to ensure quantity and quality of post development run-off does not exceed pre-development conditions, recovery of topsoil, use of native trees and shrubs including a forest restoration area to equal the footprint of the building and site, and a ‘dark skies’ approach to lighting. The building is oriented to provide a south facing entrance protected from the North-West winds. The plan also includes outdoor amenity areas for patients, visitors and staff.
